There is just something extra special about making your own pizza at home. There is a certain pride that can be taken when biting into a perfectly cooked crust that has the right combination of crispiness and chew, covered in delicious toppings.
One of the most popular trends in the culinary world of pizza right now is a crisp, thin crust. And with this simple recipe, you can make your own thin crust pizza dough at home.
Ingredients For Your Dough
- 12 oz. warm water
- ¼ tsp. sugar
- 5 tbsp. active-dry yeast
- 5 cups flour
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tbsp. salt
Making The Dough
First, you want to mix sugar, water and yeast. Combine and then set this aside so it can proof (this means letting the yeast become foamy.)
In a large mixing bowl, you can add flour, oil and salt together. Pour the yeast into this flour combination.
Flour a board (to prevent sticking) and then turn out the dough and knead it into a ball. Divide this into four sections and place them into a bowl that is lightly oiled. Cover the dough and let it rise for about three hours. (Ideally, you will be able to leave the dough to cool for a day before using. But, make sure you allow the dough to warm up to room temperature before working with it if this is the case.)
Once your dough has risen, gently press it into circles on a floured (lightly) board and stretch the dough out into your preferred thickness.
The Thinnest of Crusts
These crusts usually take about 7-10 minutes to bake (at 550 degrees.) This will depend on how thin you have rolled out your crust, as well as the heat distribution of your oven. In order for it to bake evenly, you will want to make sure to not open the oven during baking.
